Too much good advice
Whether you are on Facebook or reading a coworker's email where there's some oscure, intelligent quote below their contact info, there is a tremendous amount of good advice floating around. Zig Ziglar, actors and actresses, and every friend you know is posting little boxes of positive energy or stress reducing zen charms. In a world where we can make any meme say what we want, we're a bunch of Confucius-es spreading our good cheer and sage advice. And you all know I am one of them.
From my FB page to my blog even down to my daily "thought of the day" I send from work, I am trying to find the right words to inspire my small but loyal audience. I have to admit, I am a wee bit burned out. Problem is everyone is doing it which is okay in theory. More love should beget move love, right? Nope. We're becoming dulled by it. Monday's message was to achieve anything you want in life but then Tuesday's advice was to relax and be present then there was Wednesday. Oh, nevermind, that was something about a camel. Here comes Thursday and I am suppose to stand up for what I believe in and just in time for Friday happy hour, I am what I eat so I can't be cheap, easy, fast or fake. Great! There goes my weekend!
I think we've received too much affirmation and confidence making us a powerful being ready to champion our cause but the goal keeps changing. How can we focus on all of that? I just can't be a great leader, I need to be loving, thoughtful, giving and a great listener and I need to treat every hour as my last and my family is so important but so I am but I can't eat McDonalds and I should cook my non-GMO meals from scratch with, of course, vegetables from my urban garden made from repurposed wood.
All of this and we're exhausted but we haven't done half of what we read on the internet today. It's okay, just wait for that 5 o'clock post one of your Facebook friends posts about it being time for a beer. One glass of wine later and you've finally found some peace, love for mankind and great communication skills. No, you didn't need a saying to give you that. Barefoot Wines did that for you!
